Well we made it to Phoenix (peoria to be exact)! This has been in the making for about 9 years so there is an overwhelming accomplished almost feeling to be here. There have been a lot of hoops for Rob to jump through, but he did it, and here we are! And we survived are doing great after our first week.
Kylie's first and last days of preschool pictures. She still plans on being a ballerina, which I guess means we better start looking for ballet classes.
She has learned so much over the last year! She loves homework and learning new things. And for some reason is on a science kick right now. If it has to do with science, which they'll teach her at her new school, then she wants to learn about it. She loves Mrs Blackett and the Apple academy and was sad to have to say bye to her friends, most of which were boys. So needless to say her dad was pretty glad to have her change locations.
So Friday came, we packed up the last few boxes, had Kylie's preschool graduation, and loaded up our truck. It was a whirlwind of a day. There were so many people that came to help us load up the truck, help clean the house and had made up goodie bags for the long drive the next day. It was insane how fast it went. And I'm so glad that it was because the emotions were running high and I don't know that I could've held it in much longer.
This amazing family is one of the biggest reasons for all the emotions. To say we love the Dansie family would be an understatement to how we feel about them. They became our family and it was rough for everyone to say goodbye. So we decided on we'll see ya later. Somehow that softened the blow. But we plan on keeping in contact with them and definitely visiting when we come back to town.
You have to get the famous last picture at the house pic.
My in laws were so amazing the last week! Seriously I don't think we would have survived without them. Mom fixed us dinner 2 nights in a row and had us over so there was no cooking or cleanup and then bought pizza the last night for everyone that helped us move. My kids were so sad to have to leave her. They have completely enjoyed our walks over to Grandpa and Nanas house and aren't really sure where we are going to walk to now.
So Saturday morning we took off. Rob drove the Big truck with Max. Ky, Dane and I came down later. Like 5 hours later. The big truck didn't have air conditioning so to beat the heat they left early. Rob is so awesome he made it an adventure for Max. My parents and brother met us down here to help unpack and bring some needed furniture over. They were SO much help. By the time I got here the ward had just stopped by to help us and the truck was pretty much unloaded already.
While my parents were here Mom took us to Sams Club to stock up on some food (we hadn't been to the store in a few weeks other than for milk) and found a gem of a pool! Seriously the best $30 ever spent. We set it up Wednesday and have been in it every afternoon since. They say this has been the mildest/best May in years which is great since we still think it is already a little to warm to just sit outside. I think we have some adjusting to do :)
So here we are. It wouldn't be a Nielson adventure without many little adventures along the way. We have already discovered an amazing bike/running/walking path right behind our house that we have capitalized on. Rob has been able to go 15 miles on his bike and we've found a park, the elementary school and many creatures along the path. We have been to Thunderbird Trail and had the chance to see the city from on top of a mountain. It was the most beautiful thing ever! The hike wasn't too bad although next time we are going to leave hours earlier to avoid the heat.
We also explored the desert. When Rob asked the kids what kind of an adventure they wanted to go on I was thinking go to a park. But no! We went looking for scorpions under rocks in the desert. Yep we are crazy! But we only found 1, luckily! And the hike didn't last too long. We did create a cactus friend which the kids thought was pretty fun.
This really has been a great week. We have an amazing ward that I'm excited to be a part of. We are starting to figure out a routine and I think with a little time and a lot of google map checking we will figure life out and have a blast here. All in all I would say this week is a success!
